System Configuration

Location:
Site Actions –> Site Settings –> Settings (under the Forms Authentication Menu group)

Purpose:
Validates the Forms Based Authentication (FBA) provider and facilitates configuration of various system settings

Security:
Requires site administrator

Options:

  • Automatically generate new user passwords
    When active, the system will automatically generate a user password for all new users.
    NOTE: password can be overridden at user creation time
  • Automatically generate welcome e-mail
    When active, the system will automatically generate a welcome e-mail for all new users
    NOTE: Requires active and configured e-mail service
  • Enable the reset or lost passwords
    When active, the system will support the reset of lost passwords
    When reset, a reset password e-mail will be automatically generated and e-mailed to the user
    NOTE: Requires active and configured e-mail service
  • Welcome e-mail
    Configures the contents of the welcome e-mail.
  • Reset password e-mail
    Configures the contents of the reset password e-mail

 

New User Creation

Location:
Site Actions –> Site Settings –> Create User (under the Forms Authentication Menu group)
Also available from the User Management toolbar

Purpose:
Validates and creates a new user

Security:
Requires manage permission right

Options:

  • Entry of the user’s basic information including user name and password
    NOTE: Password will be auto generated if the Auto generate password option has been activated
  • Assignment of the user to various groups and roles
    NOTE: The groups and roles section will automatically collapse if there are more than 10 groups or roles available.  You can view by clicking the [+] button to expand the section
  • Override automatic generation of the welcome e-mail
    Prevent the automatic generation of a welcome e-mail.  Only applies if automatic welcome e-mails are active
  • Manual welcome e-mail
    Support manually generating a welcome e-mail for the new user

User Management

Location:
Site Actions –> Site Settings –> User Management (under the Forms Authentication Menu group)

Purpose:
List all forms authentication users and facilitates management of those users.

Security:
Requires manage permissions or browse user info rights
NOTE: not all management functions will be available to browse user info right

Options:

  • Column sorting supported by clicking on the column header
  • Clicking on the user name to manage the user
  • Delete user available by clicking on the user name
  • Reset password available by clicking on the user name
    NOTE: Only available if the reset password option is active
  • Unlock user available by clicking on the user name
